World Cup 2022

Spanish football both la liga and national team need to have a long, hard look at themselves. They have slipped far behind and they continue to believe that their style of football is still relevant. Crazy. The ball 8s supposed to be put in the net FFS, not passed around the pitch a 1000 times.

It's not all about style really. People like to rave about tactics, managers or style, but at NT level it doesn't matter. If you got the players you get things done.

Imagine Spain with Mbappe, Kane or even Richarlison upfront against Morocco. Game would have been over long before it gets to ET.

NT managers are no tactical geniuses, otherwise they would be coaching the top football clubs. These are guys that have to select players, form a team and somehow motivate said team.

The real problem for Spanish football is the fact that they're not producing good attacking talent.

It's a shame that they packed those 4 quarter finals in 2 days. We'll have no football for like a week after that..

I wonder what's going wrong that it seems like some nations simply can't produce certain players for extended periods of time. Just bad luck? Flaws in the system?

Like it makes sense that you don't get as many street style players as let's say Brazil as the prime example here in Europe because life and sport is so much different, but it somehow seems the whole country of Spain can't seem to find any good attackers at all for example what is really strange given the demographic and popularity of football.

Similar here in Germany where we don't have a good striker since Klose. If Moukoko doesn't make it we're probably fucked again at Euros lol. At least we somehow managed to finally get a couple decent wingers, had really painful years there as well.

Paddy Power bookies just on the radio and confirmed that two punters won big .. correctly betting on a 6:1 Portugal victory over Morocco at odds of 200:1 !!

Outside the Euros, where Spain did fine, this style of play has not worked well internationally or in UCL for about 10 years now.

Possession is fine, but but basing your game around keeping the ball at all cost is painfully predictable, and has been found out.

I think it's better this way. IIRC players have missed finals before when yellows were wiped after group stages and that's why they've changed rules.

I suppose so but maybe 4 cards and you miss would be better. Only the very sinical or dirty players would miss the final then. Most teams won't get near a final and some of their best will miss their biggest quarters or semis with 2

I am sure Argentina will look way better without Messi, but we won't get to confirm it in this WC

you have to consider the context.
This Argentina is built around Messi, Portugal is not built around Ronaldo.
If you remove Messi you can replace him with Dybala, possibly aiming for a higher work rate from the player, but you can't revolutionize your game system now.
If you wanted to give up on Messi it had to be a longer process and a different construction of the game prepared before the World Cup.
Also consider the possible criticisms against Scaloni for a World Cup that went badly in which you didn't let Messi play...

Sure
It had to be a longer process and it had to have started way earlier

Truth. Madridistas know this. Barca wake up.
