Xavi: "I have watched almost all the matches of the World Cup. With teams focused on the result, few teams with an attacking approach. More defensive. With the exception of Spain and Brazil, the rest waited for mistakes."True. Football fell and became pragmatic. It was not the strongest who won. What to do? A difficult choice.

 If this is legit and he thinks Spain's football is a model to follow, we're in for a trainwreck end to the season. FFS.

Xavi isnt even correct there.

Spain didnt play 'attacking football'.

They passed ball aimlessly at back and struggled to created decent chances bar the Costa Rica game.

When your CBs are making 300/400 passes a game and you have midfielders barely making 30 that is not some 'attacking' approach.

Not surprising Xavi thinks Spain were 'attacking' and on front foot and almost looking down on how other teams played.

Says it all.

He probably thinks Busi was one of the best players at the World Cup.

He's right on football becoming more and more defensive and pragmatic. But only mentioning Spain and Brazil as reference is wrong.

Before last World Cup Xavi was trying to claim Mbappe was all physical and lacks 'talent' to players like Neymar.

Says it all about how Xavi sees the game.

Is he fuck.

That WC just broke record for most goals.

The issue is Xavi thinks 'attacking' football is dominating game with more possession.

He is right
But Brazil also for made sure they don't concede and didn't commit players forward
Only Spain and Germany did, the rest waited for mistakes

Xavi thinks any team that sits and lets his team or Spain are being dominated... when in fact they are in control of game as much as opposition if likes of Spain pass it about as aimlessly as did in WC bar Costa Rica game.

Rodri getting 200 passes at CB is because other team allow it.

Simple as that.

When have midfielders like Gavi making 9 passes v Germany it is abysmal and not working.

It was no surprise after they lost to Japan then were out not soon after. Could see they were not a well functioning team.

Exactly. Possession isn't dominating if it leads to no goal chances like Spain vs Morocco. They could have played that game 240minutes without goal for Spain.

I liked how Argentina played the first 80 minutes

Especially build up to do Maria goal it's vintage barca

Why doesn't Xavi see that? I hope his idea for good football isn't passing it around in your own half all game creating 0 chances...

“I loathe all that passing for the sake of it, all that tiki-taka. It’s so much rubbish and has no purpose. You have to pass the ball with a clear intention, with the aim of making it into the opposition’s goal. It’s not about passing for the sake of it,” (Guardiola, 2014)

Xavi has a much more vertical approach than Spain though.

To some extent.

He also has different players as well.

But he loves to try and dominate ball and doesnt seem to see how weaknesses such as Busi as lone DM can be exposed and how teams will often give up ball to Barca to let them commit on ball and then hit gaps left.

La Liga is shite in all honesty so passing ball slowly to wide players works a lot of the time.

Xavi still has this idea in his head that he is being let down by players and his plan is working but he is blaming the wrong ones.
