And at points before that.

Good decision on Xavi to keep him and play him... Xavi 'haters' didnt agree but it is what it is.

Didn't like Valdes either. This club has been plagued by substandard keepers. Even when the club had a top 3 team, the keeper dragged us back many times.

Basically the oppposite of Madrid. Navas and Courtois have constantly been one of the biggest contributors to their CL titles.

I'll agree with you on this one though Valdes was pretty clutch in the 06 and 09 finals. He never got credit for that.

Valdes sadly got injured long term at the point that he finally become World Class.

There was a game he was in goal for Spain against France where he was at his absolute peak. You knew nothing would get past him.

Yeah Valdes in his last season was incredible tbh. Didn't make many of the dumb mistakes he usually made either.
Impossible to know if he would sustain that level though. Most likely wouldn't have.

As for ter Stegen then he's been World Class for us in La Liga for 70% of his Barca career, but in Europe he's been just average apart from in his first season.

Just about all the top GKs will have been average in the CL the seasons their team didnt win it.

Ederson was on verge of getting dropped for City and let in a lot of goals, Courtois has shipped a ton of goals in recent years in amongst some good saves, Allison fucked up v Real last season etc not been amazing outwith that lately in Europe.

Mendy was fucking shite after his and not better than MATS despite that claim.

Im far away from a Xavi fanboy but last season was great, only EL was not satisfactory. Ofc Barca needs to compete this season again for ll and if Barca plays nice football and comes close to the title win + good run in cl and copa i think most guys will be happy but atm Barca doesnt play good football, injuries dont help either so lets see how we will play with a full team

Barca won the league and were pulling away from Real who were on pace with the previous season when won it.

Cant claim Barc/Xavi won that league because 'Real lost it'.

Xavi like every coach in every team gets fans discussing the good and bad of what they have done... even Pep gets that at times from City fans if dont like a sale/signing or want him to play their favs.

With Barca are just extreme either way at times and excuses made for failure from some and excuses made when win from others.

Barca dont have to win the league but they need to keep pace from here and show progress to team from this point and progress in CL and compete with the better sides and not lose to inferior ones.
