It's not just kicking, more about how Xavi plays physically, like a tennis player. A lot of running to position himself for a pass, braking quickly, then bouncing on the balls of his feet to receive. I play the same way, and it puts a lot of stress on the calf, the Achilles, and the plantar fascia. It's more a RSI than the result of his being kicked.

Weight forward on the toes, heels off the ground, shuffle-step, like a tennis player waiting to receive a serve. Xavi positions himself more than any other player, receives more passes than any other player, and has been doing it for longer.

Watch especially the player on the right of the screen:
