Daniel Alves

Dat defending. If that was Montoya, he would be labeled a 2nd division player for eternity. Simply not good enough for Barca. Three coaches think so. But Alves is the best RB for us, obviously.

Pique is not playing today, so all hate is on alves. Montoya wouldn't be making any difference. Singling out players when our system is garbage won't matter.

Our system IS garbage, but one player CAN make a difference, especially if it's a defender getting in the way of us conceding. As I'm writing this, Alves almost cost us another goal. Because he left his man completely unmarked, meters away, behind his back. So yes, a player who would have done differently would make a difference.

Cost us the game.

Hope Lucho is happy, he gets to jerk himself to this player week after week even though it is evident that Dani is amongst the worst players in the league. Start him every game though, surely it will help the cause.

This happening is also a fault of this lack of system. If montoya was playing, and it happened, what would you say, then? Because it happened against espanyol, when he was playing.

I would say he made a mistake. I wouldn't go around saying he's not good enough for Barca and miles behind Alves, because he's not. How come Alves isn't labeled "not good enough for Barca" when he makes the same mistake, which some (rightfully) claim is due to the system? In fact, Alves should get much more criticism for the same mistake, because he's the one with experience, seniority, and a huge paycheck. He has no excuses. Montoya at least has inexperience. I'm not saying it absolves him of his sins, but at least it makes sense.

I don't think Montoya is good enough for Barça for many reasons. The most important one is his lack of drive. Bartra at least has it, and showed it more than once. Alves is bad, but why Lucho is playing him? It's not because of his name. Zubi publicly slated Alves, said his contract was up and that's it. And yes, Lucho is showing to be poor as a tactician, but he has benched Pique, Pedro, and if Montoya was showing something in training he would have had more chances by now.

Lack of drive? Could be true, but if there's one player who can be accused of having a lack of drive, it's Alves ahead of anyone else. He offers nothing, not even empty effort.

Lucho has played Pique ahead of Bartra numerous times, so I don't see how you can claim that he gives players chances based on effort in training/games. Everyone knows that Bartra at least shows more effort than Pique, if not other things.

I think this forum overrates both Bartra and Montoya. And I love Bartra. He has a lot of heart, but lacks a lot of things everyone seem to ignore. And Alves is like a headless chicken right now, but he still has drive.
Alves made 7 tackles today, the most from all players. Masch 2nd, with 4. You only focus on his negatives when he plays, but he's not as bad as people think, as isn't Pique.

The problem is not the players, is the system.

I would love to be in his position right now. Big fat paycheck, you can cross all you want and not play well at all, but the manager won't drop you because you're apparently still the "best RB on the team". Not to forget he get to play with Messi, Neymar and Suarez!
