There needs to be new word for the position that Alves is playing. He and Messi do not fit the definitions of defender and forward. It's not a great word, but I consider Alves to be a "right".

There is no word for all that Messi does. Is any forward in the world as active as he is when the opponents have the ball in their back half of the field? Most forwards rest or sulk when possession changes, Messi so often pressures the ball. He is now urging his fellow forwards to be as aggressive as he is on defense. Like he inspired Tevez in the World Cup. Tevez was lunatic active attacking the ball in El Mundial.
