Atlhough I think he would be perfect for us, I really can't see him leaving Tottenham this summer. He has only been there for one season and they're looking at Champions League football next season. We would have to splash out big time to get Levy to sell.

He is a dm, like Song. That's what they clearly wanted, a dm who could, in theory, play cb. Bad call, as they snubbed Vertonghen and Hummels.

Yep, not even bad, really bad call...One of 'your own' is flogging the player to the club and he's still bypassed?...I do wonder how much they considered him but not a great buy with Song, more so because he simply doesn't really fit for us

Glad a lot of other cules are seeing that this was such a huge missed opportunity.
Song was what 20 mil? Vertonghen cost Spurs only 11 at most.

Mascherano could have been backup at CB/DM and we would have had a solid defender to partner Pique.
Hopefully we buy a proper CB this summer (Vertonghen, Juan, Marquinhos, Subotic, Hummels, Kompany).

Completely agree with you. He's really shown off his ability this season in the BPL. This guy would be perfect for the squad because of his amazing ball skills; he's not just a tackling machine but he can also start an attack or keep possession, as you stated.

Haha I know, kinda joking. But not fully; as I told before, although I am not an Ajax fan at all I did see him become the absolute hero that brought home the championship last year to Amsterdam. And that has left quite an impression
