Ronaldinho's Barca consisted of a supporting cast of Etoo, Deco, Larsson, Xavi, Iniesta, and Messi. In that order. Iniesta and Messi were younger and less experienced. Deco was already a CL winner by the time he came and Eto'o already played for top teams before he came to Barca. Xavi was an important player in the midfield although underrrated at that time due to stacked cast of players that stole the spotlight from him. The entire setup of Barca's possession game complimented his skills and made him look better. Same could be said for Neymar tbh.

Copa America and Brazil 2002, R10 was not a starter nor the main man. That Brazil was stacked with the best world players in their prime. I guess you could give props to R10 showing up in the England WC game but Brazil would have won anyway and that was more giving himself attention for his future career.

Ronaldinho came in 2003, when Barca was weaker than today.
His teammates were Kluivert, Saviola, Lucho, Cocu, 23 years old Xavi etc.
In the 2nd season, we signed Etoo, Deco, Guily, Edmilson, Larsson. That was a good team, but in that season, in September: Motta, Edmilson, Larsson and Gabri suffered knee injuries and Sylvinho was out for the majority of a season. We had only 3 attackers and 3-4 midfielders for the whole season, zero rotation. We won a title, but los to Mou's Chelsea.
In the 3rd season, we won La Liga and a CL without injured Xavi (knee ligaments).
In the first 3 seasons, Messi was a non factor.
He didn't play in the first 2 seasons, and in the 3rd he started to get minutes and turned into a starter but got injured in CL quarters and missed the remaining of a season.
So, Messi was a factor only in the 4th and 5th season, but even then he got injured often.
In the 4th and 5th season, Ronaldinho gained weight, started to get injured often, Messi was injured and Deco was getting divorced and he totally disappeared mentally.

On the other hand, Neymar came in 2013:
Messi was 26
Iniesta was 29
Busi was 25
Alves was 30
Mascherano 29
Alba 24
Fabregas was 26
And in the next season, we signed 27 years old Suarez.

In the 2nd season, Neymar played with Messi, Suarez.
Xavi was still there, Iniesta/Busi/Alves were still very good, Rakitic was young and babysitting for everyone, we had 2 good goalkeepers back then.

It is hard to call Rijkaard's Barca better in terms of names than MSN Barca.
The only difference is that Rijkaard's Barca was maybe more combative and less amigos-based.

For me, the main difference between Ronaldinho and Neymar is that Ronaldinho is looking to score a goal and assist as his purpose of a game.
And while he is direct and trying to score, he is using tricks on top of that.
So, tricks and fun are only secondary in his game to reach the main goal = a win/to score goals.

Yet, with Neymar, it always seemed as TRICKS are primary in his game.
You often get an impression how he is not there to get to the goal as fast as he can, but to showboat, show clown tricks, humiliate opponents, create good Youtube videos and GIFs and similar.
Do you remember that classic Neymar action when he slows down, stops and wait for an opponent to show him tricks and waits to be fouled and then he rolls on the ground?
Or how many times he dribbles past the opponent, ONLY to slow down, allows the opponent to catch him and then he tries to humiliate/dribble him again?
Or that famous bacwards dribbling when he for some reason doesn't want to pass the ball and dribbles towards his goal until he gets fouled?
Imo, something is fundamentally wrong in Neymar's head regarding showboating.

We all know Ronaldinho's videos from Barca and Brasil, but here is a video of pre-Barca Ronaldinho from 2 PSG seasons, aged 21-23.
Look at this video and look at the difference compared to Neymar: Ronaldinho is direct, Ronaldinho is fast, Ronaldinho doesn't fake fouls, Ronaldinho doesn't fall down, Ronaldinho doesn't showboat for no reason, Ronaldinho doesn't dribble backwards.
He just takes the ball and tries to score/make an assist and that's it: :worthy:

Neymar wants to milk his good dribbles too much. Ronaldinho, okay I beat you and now I will score a goal.

True.

Can't believe Ronaldinho used to be that fast.

BOOMER MENTALITY.
Highlights video over the course of 2 seasons in 8mins LOL.

Here's a random good game from his time at PSG:

A highlights video will pick out the good moments from this match and place them in, and forget about all the dumb moments Ronaldinho had by holding on to the ball too much instead of passing; losing the ball in midfield; succumbing to fouls just like Neymar does; losing the ball after attempting an unnecessary fancy elastico trick, and so on.

Boomers like you forget about all these moments, look back on the "old days" with your rose tinted nostalgia glasses, and compare said big moments to contemporary players whose faults you remember way too clearly because you're still watching full matches of their performances. I have seen dozens of matches of Neymar being more effective for his team in the past 5 years.

INB4 well yeah it's okay for Ronaldinho to succumb to fouls because back then defenders were real men and they were placing in actual tackles!

Yes, Ronaldinho from 2001 to 2007 was an animal in terms of physique, strength, acceleration, agility.
Look at his legs:

Please don't shit on Ronaldinho with Neymar's comparisons.
It's blasphemy.

I could reply, have you also forgot how shit that clown (Neymar) was for us on majority of games?
I used to count and post stats on forums back then, iirc, in roughly 70% of actions when the ball was passed to Neymar, the action was dead:
-- he would either lose the ball
-- make the bad pass
-- got fouled
-- or shot at goal (and missed)

More or less, when you passed the ball to Neymar, you won't get it back.
When I watched random matches against bad opponents back then, my only wish was: guys, just please don't pass to Neymar since you won't get the ball back this or that way.

Enjoy this guy who is supposedly better than Ronaldinho (btw you posted French Ronnie who was a kid. I am posting a prime Neymar from 2016, lol).
Look at this clownshow and how he played for us on majority of days:

Ronaldinho was very explosive, people usually dont talk of him being fast because of his technical skills, but he was rapid as well.

Great match against Nantes BTW. I was doing you a favor by posting a great match by him. Now lets see a more regular PSG performance by Ronaldinho...

The elusive "100% effective" Ronaldinho from the figment of imaginations conjured up by boomers. If this was Neymar BBZ would be like, "man why doesn't he just pass the ball? Always trying to hero ball and be the showman!" So many opportunities to just quickly pass the ball and move on but he always persisted on hogging the ball to drive it into the final 3rd by himself! Sounds like someone we all know, right?

So effective.

And just look at how many times he's on the floor due to a foul?

Neymar should not be compared to Ronaldinho... Someone like Franck Ribery or Eden Hazard would be more appropriate. And those two were better dribblers, especially Ribery.

What makes Ribery a better dribler than Hazard, exactly?

Hazard was the most fouled player of the last decade, by some distance, just to give you an idea how difficult he was to disposses.

Also in regards to the 2002 world cup argument, words are words and paragraphs are just paragraphs. Let's see a 12min highlight video of Brazil's triumphs in Korea/Japan.

Using this tournament as a "proof" that Ronaldinho was better than [x player who doesn't have a world cup/trophy in general with his NT] is just hilarious. Look at just how many times he appears in the video in comparison to THE REAL REASON Brazil won the tournament.

Pogba and Mbappe, the players you shit on, had better tournaments for France than Ronaldinho had for Brazil in 2002.
