Nah, I'd give them a very small chance in CDR this year, but in UCL they won't get past ManU.

We were 12th at one point in the league back in 99/00 and we won the CL that year.

Even Guti the Marvel agrees the worse we did in the league, the better we did in the CL.

But you would agree with this manager and these type of players, things are much different than 99//00.

It's not like everytime madrid underperforms in the ligue they won a CL. That just tell us you have never been dominant enough to win a domestic league and the CL. You have to focus on just one to be able to obtain it. Only great, dominant teams can manage to win a double let alone a treble....or sextuple :pep:

Yeah, you might just have the chance to try and catch up with our legacy in the years to come. Given Xavi plays for 5 more years or Cesc transforms into him of course ;)

You mean the legacy earned by beating all powerful teams like Stade de Reims and Eintracht Frankfurt?
or being shit in the league to be able to win a CL? The Copa de Europa in the 50s was a joke if you want to compare the difficulty and competition you have to face to win a CL(thats the real deal) Madrid's "legacy" is all about being hyped to extremes they have never reached in terms of quality displayed on the field

Stade de Reims was great in the 50s...just because they are irrelevant now doesn't mean they always were. Raymond Kopa and Just Fontaine were two of France's all time great attacking players, Armand Penverne, Robert Jonquet, Roger Marche were some of the best defenders of their era.

Eintracht Frankfurt was one of those flukey cup specialists. Using them to downplay the competition of the European Cup in the 50s and 60s would be like using Porto and Chelsea to dismiss the past decade. Fluke cup winners and finalists do happen, they happened then, they happen now.

an era were players were merely professionals. an era with no English teams in Copa de Europa, they were among the best if the best of those years. An era with almost no southamericans. An era when you only had to face 4 teams to be crowned champion, the champions of Serbia, Austria, Sweden, Scotland among them...
It was a competition in progress and one of the founders was the President of RM himself

You just cannot give the same credit to the competition in its early years to what this competition has become. There is a reason no team has been able to retain the crown since the actual, more complicated and competitive format took place

Everytime Mou won the CL, he also won the league title. :tito:
